Environmentalist Feature: Wawa Gatheru

Rhodes Scholar Wanjiku “Wawa” Gatheru is a Black environmental justice advocate who is shaping the path towards culturally inclusive, community-based environmental solutions. In addition to being the founder of Black Girl Environmentalist, Wawa partnered with the Sierra Club to create one of the largest Black youth-led environmental initiatives named the ‘Reclaiming Our Time’ campaign and is co-hosting “The Green Table Talks” as a series centered on Black and Latinx perspectives on environmental topics. As an environmental justice and inclusivity advocate, Wawa is leading the much-needed changes and solutions for environmental and social justice issues.
